The Team
Artist Statement
The image above is a mini poster of the skyline tennis team. We together had an amazing three months. Going about 25-3 the season was one to remember. I balanced the photo on a coat stamp and took the photo at a slight angle. This allow the photo and its adjacent symmetrical image to look as if the image gets deeper when they merge. I really like this effect and it happens twice in the image, one at the top center then again in the bottom center. Sadly, I was one of two freshman on the team so my friends from Forsythe who tried out didn't start with any friends on the team. But, as we played more and more and got more comfortable it really felt like a team at the end.
A Token of my determination
Artist Statement
I chose this as my favorite mask for a few reasons. One is that the picture of me as a baby had not a lot of detail to it since obviously I can't remember the picture so I wouldn't know how to explain it. Then I had already done an artist statement of my dog in the portraits. Finally, the other the two images are of the skyline tennis team so I didn't want to write another artist statement on it. This image also brings back so many memories of tournaments and past academic medals I achieved through determination. But, these medals are the ones have gotten through tennis. I remember a lot of the tournaments and how close some of them were. Most are from the Huron Valley tournaments but some of these I have gotten elsewhere. This is also one of the images I edited extremely clean. The red and blue pops out so much and I didn't go over the white but since it is sandwiched between the red and blue it also pops out. I also love the different designs on the medals and shape as well. The final thing I liked about the image is that even though each piece is individual, they are all grouped close together so the shadow has basically no gaps of light in it which kind of shows how each one tells a different story but all of them relate to my sweat and work on the court and are all one token of my determination.
