My Places in Life
The message I portrayed in my collage was the places and areas I enjoy being in. The one time experiences that I wish I could go back or the choices I made earlier in life that I will never regret. I didn't include people in their because I wanted it to be about me and my sole experiences alone. The background is just a picture of me outside, even though you can't really tell, and I made it in such a way that the other parts of the background would be completely obstructed from the viewer's sight so they can focus on the big picture. The second layer is a picture of my tennis bag and the image shows how that is my favorite hobby in the world. I chose to play when I was around 8 years old with a lot of persuasion from my parents and for that I am very grateful for what they did. The third layer is my dog just sleeping on his favorite chair in the living room. He is only 2 years old and definitely one of the best choices my family made. He is loving and energetic and brings smiles to our faces. The next layer is a picture on the bottom of the view from the top of a mountain palace in India. I hadn't been to India in 10 years and it was an amazing experience to see my extended family and all the beautiful sights. After layer is a picture from Niagara falls and on at trip, my cousins actually came with us and it was one of my favorite trips. The falls looked spectacular and it is one of my greatest early teen memories. The final layer is a picture of Manhattan and it was only my mom and I on the trip. We went there for my middle school graduation and it was a wild week. We explored a ton and we had a great time together. The main effect I used in photoshop was the eraser because the falls included a lot of people on the sides and the mountain view showed way too much sky. My places in life will continue to expand as I get older and I am excited to see where it takes me next.
A Peaceful Obstruction
My double exposure photograph was meant to be more centered around the landscape part of the image instead of myself as the subject. I did this because I had a different mindset on the formation of the two images. Instead of thinking that the other image is something important to me. I thought of it as somewhere I've seen or touched. I was the one who traveled to the place not that the place is a visual component about me. That's why the blend mode I chose (overlay) has my silhouette translucent. I really like the title for this one because you could say my face is blocking the sunlight but also the tree is. But it is doing it very peacefully and the green scenery around the forest adds to that "zen" feeling. I also like how the blend mode incorporated a stronger color on parts of the forest within my body and outside the colors were lighter from the light. It looks as if my face is in between the tree and light because of how the tree covers my face and you can see tiny bits of light outlined around the tree. Even smaller slivers of light completely line around it to separate my face from the tree. The trees around the me loom much different and far bigger than the one in the middle but they really aren't. All of them are redwoods and extend so high up that it makes the plants up close so short. The leaves at the top of the image allow for the image not to be completely white with all the light. I think the idea of one color in this image make it really appealing to look at and see the finer details of the shapes. I took the image in San Francisco's Muir Woods. The Redwoods there were hundreds of feet in the air. And the tall canopy made a spectacular sight up high since the forest was lit up but only tiny portions of light were shining through. When I see the image I feel joy from the subtle colors all around and I hear the voices of the forest in my head. The sun really helps the trees in the background to be a little less colorful and the plants up front be filled with green. This photography project was easily my favorite of all of them and it really show how much I have improved in the art when compared to the image on the left. The editing skills are far superior on the right and image quality is exciting to see. I feel I have accomplished this project through this one image for the story it brings with it.
